PT. Smart Cakrawala Aviation is looking for a Cabin Safety & Interior Design Engineer to join our Design Organisation Approval (DOA) Class C team for small aircraft, supporting aircraft design changes and certification activities.
In this role you will prepare and support cabin layout and interior modification design data, assess the cabin safety implications of each change, evaluate weight and balance effects, translate customer requirements into verifiable design inputs, and support compliance demonstration against the applicable certification basis.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and revise the Layout of Passenger Accommodation (LOPA) and cabin configuration drawings.
- Assess cabin layout changes for exit access, evacuation paths, aisle access, occupant safety, and potential obstructions.
- Develop or review interior installation drawings and identify interfaces with structure, systems, controls, emergency equipment, and maintenance access.
- Assess material and furnishing requirements, including applicable flammability requirements and equipment retention.
- Perform or support weight and balance calculations for cabin equipment and interior changes, including mass, moment, and centre of gravity effects.
- Capture customer requirements and maintain traceability to design outputs and compliance evidence.
- Identify applicable regulations and certification requirements, and prepare or support compliance checklists and substantiation documents.
- Coordinate with structures, systems, electrical, and other specialists when an analysis falls outside your assigned scope.
- Maintain technical records in line with DOA design, verification, document control, and configuration control procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (S1) in Aerospace / Aeronautical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant engineering discipline. Industrial Design graduates may be considered if they can demonstrate aircraft engineering and airworthiness competency.
- Working knowledge of aircraft configuration, technical drawings, engineering documentation, and aircraft modification principles.
- Able to prepare clear engineering drawings, calculations, technical reports, and compliance documentation.
- Able to read and interpret aircraft manuals, approved data, equipment specifications, and regulatory references.
- Understanding of cabin safety: emergency exits, occupant egress, seating and restraints, emergency equipment, placards, and interior material flammability.
- Understanding of aircraft weight and balance: weight, moment, centre of gravity (CG), useful load, and loading limits.
- Proficient with CAD software for layout and installation drawings (CATIA, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent), and with spreadsheets for weight and balance calculations and traceability matrices.
- Good written and verbal communication, and able to coordinate with engineering, certification, and other stakeholders.
- Candidates with limited direct experience may be considered for a supervised junior role if they show sound engineering fundamentals and the ability to learn.
Good to Have
- Training or experience in aircraft cabin / interior design, cabin safety, LOPA, aircraft weight and balance, or aircraft modification certification.
- Experience preparing compliance checklists, means of compliance, and requirements traceability for aircraft modifications.
- A postgraduate degree (S2), although this is not a requirement.
